Transgender And US Military - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1267 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2019/08/07 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Transgender Essay Did you like this example? President Trump announced that US Military wont accept transgender into US Military. This announcement provoked his audience on Twitter and they called his decision callous and against the human right. Many retired generals, admirals and prominent members of Congress condemned this decision of President Trump. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Transgender And US Military" essay for you Create order Multiple lawsuits were filed to challenge the decision. Obama administration has allowed Trans people to serve in the military; this reverse of decision has given rise to the question that should Trans be allowed to serve military or if not then on which basis they are not allowed to serve. Is this based on some reason or this is a simple act of like and hate for the Trans community. Previously in 2016 Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced that Transgender are allowed to serve the military. But Carter nor Barak Obama ever articulated that how that policy will affect the military readiness. Military readiness is the criteria that evaluate the changes made to the military personnel recruitment policy. Decision makers are under huge stress after Trumps announcement. Under the current global situation of the economy, military and security; this decision will affect military readiness in the long term. All the emotions Transgender have for the military are valuable but are the actually ready to serve the military is the question that many wont consider. Military training is tough. The pace of deployment of troops has increased to the point that after nine-month deployment period, troops get nine months to recover and train before the next deployment. Training and harsh conditions put soldiers through extreme stress and put their marriages under strain, which in turn effects their mental health severely. Mental problems are common in soldiers. Stress management is an important aspect of military life survival. Will Trans people be able to control this stress, is the question. Transgender refers to those individuals who are assigned the different gender, but they feel like another. They can look like one gender but they feel like another. This feeling of dislocation in ones own bodies is described as gender dysphoria. Some Dysphoric change their gender, as a cure to this disorder. This requires them to go through gender reassignment operations, Hormone therapy and then appearance change treatments including, plastic surgery and laser hair removal, etc. So the procedural cost is extremely high. The opposition to this announcement has given a passionate responses to the new decision, and they claim that numerous myths, lies, and stereotypes are attached to the Trans community, and lies should be separated from facts. They claim that Transgender are actually fit to serve. If they fulfill the requirements of any particular gender during the selection according to criteria, then they cant be stopped from serving their country. In defense, they claim that our bodies are not perfect and we routinely alter our bodies to correct the issues or simple flaws, like eye surgery and cosmetic surgery. Even the physical issues at birth are altered later for correction then why dysphoric disorder, cant be corrected. When mismatched body is corrected, it does not make a person physically unfit. And this reassignment actually contributes to their mental health and fitness in the long run(Should Transgender Persons Serve? | U.S. Naval Institute). Normally if service member gets injured in comb at or accident, they are provided medical treatment and areb given time for recovery. Health care issues like blood pressure, cholesterol, concussions, and mental health issues are common in general. Similarly, Gender dysphoria is no different. Medical issues related to Gender dysphoria include similar treatments, they are just used in a different way, i.e., counseling, grooming, lifestyle, and hormone levels. Depending on the situation Trans members can serve their deployment and can still transition during other deployments. About the cost; around $2.4 a million to $4.8 million is required for complete reassignment, which is .14% of the total annual military budget. Knee replacement requires around 12 weeks to recover, but Trans surgery requires eight weeks. So why this cant be treated as a normal procedure. Trans medical allowance is like other, soldiers medical allowance. They cant be segregated on basis of medical need. They should be allowed to deal with their medical issues like other soldiers. Many soldiers dont disclose their identity but they keep serving silently for years due to fear of losing a career. The point is, they already are different so why they cant be allo wed to transition into their true selves and still be part of military (Hill et al.). All the defense in favor of Trans to join the military can be understood, and at humanitarian level one can agree to it, but we need to dig deeper into the matter. Decisions should not be made on the basis of emotions but by logic. We can just agree to this without considering other aspects of gender dysphoria. Many questions should be considered in other dimension. Is gender dysphoria actually curable through gender reassignment? Facts should be considered, especially when huge cost, military readiness and performance is at stake. Transgenders, already dealing with pressure, will they be able to manage more pressure during deployments? Suicide is already increasing between military personnel due to the nature of the job, they do. Stress and depression get to them, which is a huge problem. From the economical aspect, if we keep things practical, huge military budget is spent on training soldiers, but when they become unfit, they endanger the force. Not only they adds to the cost, but if they commit suicide its not just loss of precious life, but it is losing investment put on a defense. So is it wise to put week people who are already prone to distress, to the military? Actual figures support the fact that Trans suicide rate is 6.7% higher than the other genders in the US(Suicide Rates: An Overview). Its not only because of the social pressure but also due to depression; they feel after reassignment but also because gender dysphoria remains there. So after reassignment operation. Persons gender is not changed completely because genders cant be altered completely. Researches support this fact. This delusional concept is supported by the media, but in reality, gender alteration is not possible. Trans attempt suicide is 41% more than then cisgender Americans. They are not resilient and strong enough to handle harsh combat as a non-trans person(Why Transgender People Experience More Mental Health Issues). Many reassignments cause issues like reduced strength and confidence. Due to hormone therapy, many emotional and mood changes occur in Transgender. Risk of psychiatric hospitalization increases up to 2.8 times. Also, a physical persona can change their reproductive systems that is the basis on gender difference, apart from this difference all others are stereotypes that are self-cre ated(Anderson). Sexual Organizations begins with DNA when a child is in the womb; all the sex difference infest themselves at the molecular level in all organs. So simply a cross-hormone therapy can change the gender, in fact, they can stunt and damage the outward expressions and our biological reproductive organizations. But the complete transition is not possible its just a glamorous myth. This just creates instability the person. Some alternative cure need be found for gender dysphoria. So these Trans individuals who desperately want to serve their military are respected for their emotions. But at a humanitarian level, it would not be suitable to put them under such harsh battlefield conditions, especially knowingly the situations that they are dealing with. Also military cant keep unfit in the military as it will affect the performance of operations. Also knowing the cost of maintenance, it will be unwise to let Trans join the military.

An Introduction to Obsolete Words

Obsolete word is a temporal label commonly used by lexicographers (that is, editors of dictionaries) to indicate that a word (or a particular form or sense of a word) is no longer in active use in speech and writing. In general, notes Peter Meltzer, the difference between an obsolete word and an archaic word is that, although both have fallen into disuse, an obsolete word has done so more recently (The Thinkers Thesaurus, 2010). The editors of The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (2006) make this distinction: Archaic. [T]his label is attached to entry words and senses for which there is only sporadic evidence in print after 1755 . . ..Obsolete. [T]his label is attached to entry words and senses for which there is little or no printed evidence since 1755. In addition, as Knud Sà ¸rensen points out, it sometimes occurs that words which have become obsolete in Britain continue to be current in the United States (compare Amer. Engl. fall and Brit. Engl. autumn) (Languages in Contact and Contrast, 1991). Following are some examples of obsolete words: Illecebrous Illecebrous [ill-less-uh-brus] an obsolete word meaning attractive, alluring. From a Latin word meaning to entice.(Erin McKean, Totally Weird and Wonderful Words. Oxford University Press, 2006) Mawk The underlying meaning of mawkish is maggotish. It was derived from a now obsolete word mawk, which meant literally maggot but was used figuratively (like maggot itself) for a whim or fastidious fancy. Hence  mawkish originally meant nauseated, as if repelled by something one is too fastidious to eat. In the 18th century the notion of sickness or sickliness produced the present-day sense over-sentimental.(John Ayto, Word Origins, 2nd ed. A C Black, 2005) Muckrake Mudslinging and muckraking--two words commonly connected with the pursuit of an elected office and the flotsam the campaigns leave in their wake.Voters seem fairly familiar with the term used to describe malicious or scandalous attacks against opponents, but the latter m word may be new for some people. It is an obsolete word describing a tool used to rake muck or dung and used in reference to a character in John Bunyan’s classic Pilgrim’s Progress [1678]--the Man with the Muck-rake who rejected salvation to focus on filth.(Vanessa Curry, Don’t Muck It Up, and We Won’t Rake It. The Daily Herald [Columbia, TN], April 3, 2014)| Slubberdegullion Slubberdegullion is n: a slobbering or dirty fellow, a worthless sloven, 1610s, from slubber to daub, smear, behave carelessly or negligently (1520s), probably from Dutch or Low German (cf. slobber (v)). Second element appears to be an attempt to imitate French; or perhaps it is French, related to Old French goalon a sloven. Century Dictionary speculates the -de- means insignificant or else is from hobbledehoy. Snoutfair Snoutfair is a person with a handsome countenance (literally, a fair snout). Its origins are from the 1500s. Lunting Lunting means to walk while smoking a pipe. Lunting  is also the emantion of smoke or steam from a tobacco pipe, or the flame used to light a fire, torch, or pipe, The word lunting originated in the 1500s from either the Dutch word lont  meaning a slow match or fuse or the Middle Low German lonte meaning a wick. With Squirrel With squirrel is a euphemism that means pregnant. It originated in the Ozark Mountains  in the early 20th century. Curglaff Curglaff is commonly felt by people in northern climes —it is the shock that one feels when first plunging into cold water. The word curglaff originated from Scotland in the 1800s. (Also spelled curgloff). Groak To groak (verb) is to watch someone longingly while they are eating, in the hope that they will give you some of their food. The origin is possibly Scottish.   Cockalorum Cockalorum is a little man who has an over-inflated opinion of himself and thinks himself more important than he is; also, boastful speech. The origin of cockalorum  may be from the from the obsolete Flemish word  kockeloeren of the 1700s,  meaning to crow.

The Opinion Post Truth And Its Effect On Our Political...

You’ve probably heard this statement ‘everyone is entitled to their opinion.’ Perhaps you’ve even said it yourself. Well, what if, you are not entitled to your opinion but only entitled to what you can argue for? For many years, people have always used the saying â€Å"I’m entitled to my opinion† as a way of avoiding new information or having to support their claim in a disagreement. My incompetence to defend this opinion does not oblige me to refrain from having it. Therefore, to some extent we are entitled to an ‘opinion’, however, some opinions are better than others. Just because we are of equal value in a democracy, it does not necessarily mean that our opinions are equal. Throughout this essay, we will cover: the basic definition of an†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"I’m entitled to my opinion† or â€Å"I have a right to my opinion† are some common rhetorical declaration that are made at some point d uring an argument (in text reference). Both statements exemplify an informal logical fallacy known as ‘red herring’ – used partway through an argument when the arguer goes on a tangent that distracts the audience, which usually results with the arguer never returning to the original issue. An opinion holds an element of belief, which is not always true and cannot be proven otherwise (in text reference). â€Å"Wayne Rooney is the best football player in English Premier League,† this is merely and opinion because some people might think there are other players in the English Premier League who are better than Wayne Rooney and it is not based on evidence that can be checked (in text reference). The idea that everyone is entitled to an opinion is a clichà © and like many clichà ©s it is in a certain degree false. An argument has two parts, a premise and a conclusion. A premise is a statement in an argument that provides reason or support for the conclusion, whereas a conclusion indicates what the arguer is trying to convince the reader. â€Å"This is so (conclusion) because that is so (premise)† is a clear example of how a premise helps justify the conclusion. IOT Home Automation-Free-Sample for Students-Myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the IOT Home Automation. Answer: Introduction Internet of Things or IOT is a technology that uses the internet to monitor and control the electronic, mechanical and physical devices connected over internet (Yang, 2014). IOT for home automation is an interesting project where the devices of modern home are controlled and operated with the help of internet. This helps in automating the modern homes through internet. Problem Definition Managing and controlling all the appliances running is a home becomes difficult. This is because convectional wall switches are located in the different parts of the house and thus it becomes difficult to keep track of all the appliances that are running Solution with features In order to deal with the problem stated above, the project Home Automation System is proposed that will not only control and monitor all the appliances of a house over WIFI but also provide an additional security. It will provide feature of a smart home and effective monitoring of all the devices and appliances running inside the home. It is simple and easy to use and will benefit mainly the aged and disable people in the house. How it works? Home-automation is a system of networked and controllable devices that work coordinated to make the home customized, comfortable, efficient and secure. The home automation is generally operated with the help of a Smartphone app. A user-friendly interface of the application enables the user to control the home appliances like lighting, ventilation, Air Conditioning, security and other home appliances very easily and effectively. A specific microcontroller is adjusted with the devices, for receiving commands from the user. The microcontroller is connected with the modem of the Wi-Fi so that the devices are able to reeceive the user commands. After receiving the user commands over the Wi-Fi network, the microcontrollers processes the instructions to operate accordingly (Lee et al., 2013). The system status is displayed in the Smartphone app and thus it helps efficient management in relation to the home automation system. Figure 1: Representation of Wi-Fi bases Home Automation System (Source: ElShafee Hamed, 2012) Project Overview Home-automation is process of controlling the household appliances over electronic means, specifically internet. The project involves the automated control over the temperature of the house, doors and windows apart from the household appliances. It uses a micro controller to control the users commands. The whole system is controlled using a Smartphone application (Piyare, 2013). The structure of the home automation system is shown below- Figure 1: The structure of the Project Home Automation System (Source: ElShafee Hamed, 2012) Project objectives The objective of the project Home-Automation system is listed below- Application of a reliable and scalable home automation IOT system The system will be used to control the household devices and appliances remotely using a microcontroller. Up grading the traditional system of convectional switches to a centralized control system using a microcontroller and Smartphone app. Designing a Smartphone application to communicate with the microcontrollers Project Scope The project focuses on application of a home automation system in low cost and wireless technology. This system would not only make the home a comfortable place of living but also help the old, elderly and disabled people at home (Domingo, 2012). This system of smart-home will improve the idea and standard living. Moreover, the development technology of the home-automation system is user-friendly. The automation system can be accessed with the help of the internet. Technology Exposure Technology exposures provided by the project are Android open source technology (Smartphone operating system) Wi-Fi technology Interfacing relays with ac and dc power sources (Want, Schilit Jenson, 2015). Use of transistor as Switch Embedded programming The benefits (pros) of Home Automation Energy efficient- All the appliances can be controlled remotely with the help of a Smartphone, hence it saves energy. Convenient- the system is very convenient to use as the whole system can be controlled with a Smartphone. Comfortable- the system makes the home a more comfortable place. Security- provides an additional security to home thorough automated locking system of the doors and windows. Disadvantages (cons) of the Home automation system The disadvantages of home automation system are as follows- The cost of equipment and the installation cost are very high. The cost is considerably higher for more advanced system. The whole system crashes even if there is an issue in a single connection. Although the system is reliable but sometimes, even the technology cannot be trusted fully. Need of Wi-Fi and a Smartphone is necessary to access the system (ElShafee Hamed, 2012). Conclusion Therefore, from the above discussion, it can be concluded that the project, home automation system can be applied and implemented for remotely controlling the home appliances to make it more secure and comfortable. The system interacts with the Smartphone using the microprocessor connected with the appliances. This system would be very beneficial for the elderly as well as the disabled people. However, there are certain limitations in implementation of the project. References Domingo, M. C. (2012). Speech on Cyberbullying free essay sample

â€Å"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me† is false, words hurt, they scar in fact. Fat, Ugly, Worthless†¦. †Why are you even alive, nobody likes you! † How would you feel if that was your brother or your sister? Words have a big effect on people and can haunt them for the rest of their lives. Everyone knows about cyber bullying but no one ever talks about, well ladies and gentlemen it’s time. Over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet and over 80 percent of teens use a cell phone regularly, making it the most popular form of technology and a common medium for cyber bullying and bullying victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to consider committing suicide. Why make someone feel so worthless that they want to take their own life? Does it give you satisfaction to kill someone inside? Did you know that cyber bullying is not illegal in all the states and the states where it is illegal in it is just covered through school policies? So if the policy states nothing about school policies you are on your own or if you are already graduated you’re on your own as well. We will write a custom essay sample on Speech on Cyberbullying or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page What’s the difference between cyber bullying and bullying but the fact that there is a coward hiding behind a phone or computer? They see cyber bullying as a minor problem; it’s a MAJOR problem! Teens die every day just because one person decided to make their life hell. However with one teen, one message, transmitted from one computer or one phone can start a forest fire. One teen, two teens, three teens, four; Crying on the bathroom floor. Five teens, six teens, seven, eight, and nine; does it look like they’re really fine? One person can comment on someone’s picture or status then bring people in just so they can laugh along with them. One spark, ignites a flame, one flame starts a fire. Imagine checking your phone and seeing 10 new messages, â€Å"Is it true what they are saying about you? † Imagine sitting alone at lunch because no one wants to be your friend, no one wants to sit with you because rumors say you have diseases. Imagine walking into class and everyone laughing at you or even skipping school just because you don’t want to deal with the same pain every day. You can’t escape this pain, it’s on your phone, and the internet so it’s with you everywhere you go but you get it ten times worse at school. Cyber bullying and bullying are some of the main reasons for dropping out and excessive absences. Cyber bullying basically drives kids out of school, because they aren’t safe, school should be the one place kids look forward to. Although how can you with an unsafe environment? No one realizes that these comments that people make can stay with someone for the rest of their lives. It’s really sad, how a beautiful girl can’t see her true beauty, inner and outer because a group of mean girls calls her ugly. It is sad how one boy can over dose on steroids because kids at school call him â€Å"scrawny†. So when these kids you bully look at themselves in the mirror they won’t see their potential in the future, they will be looking for the end of them, and they will see themselves as ugly or an outsider just because that’s what you told them. They see the messages you sent and will literally cry themselves to sleep. You might say â€Å"why don’t you just change your number, delete you social networking sites or just avoid your phone all together? † Well the victims of cyber bullying become addicted and it’s like their stuck in a vortex once they see what people are saying about them they want to keep seeing it, they won’t come out of the vortex. However these people will carry your comments on with them with their rest of the life, it will cause permanent damage, and sometimes the pain is too much to where they take their own life all because you bullied them a couple of years back. Cyber bullying should be illegal everywhere because cyber bullying is basically murder, your murdering someone mentally and for that there should be MAJOR consequences. So let’s make a stand together against cyber bullying, no one should ever feel worthless to the point to they would rather take their own life then live. If that was your brother or your sister getting bullied on the internet you would stand up for them, well what about these other kids constantly getting bullied who have no one there for them? You should be the brother or sister they never had. Cyber bullying should be illegal everywhere; in every state and not only through school. By ending cyber bullying we are saving lives, imagine all the kids that have committed suicide that could have been mothers or fathers. Stand up for other but as well as yourself. If you ever feel the need to call a bullying hotline, call them! Bullying lines are absolutely anonymous and they are free! Don’t be afraid to get help or help someone because remember words do hurt, they scar in fact.
